Spotify advertising is coming — here's how to track it now

Spotify's own advertising API creates a campaign already active, with no paused-draft state to review first. Every other channel here launches paused for a human to approve, so reporting and pause come first, and campaign building waits until we've verified a safe paused-draft flow for it too. No date — just the honest state of the build.

Why Spotify advertising is still coming

Spotify advertising runs on a real, documented API — Ad Studio and the underlying Spotify Ads API can create and manage campaigns programmatically, so this isn't a dead end. The catch is how a new campaign comes into the world: Spotify's API creates it active by default, with no equivalent of the paused-draft state that Meta, Google, Microsoft, TikTok and Snapchat all give us. Every live channel on this site follows the same rule — a campaign built here launches paused, for a person to review and approve before a dollar spends. So the plan is reporting and pause first, and campaign building only after we've proven a safe way to hold a Spotify campaign paused after creation, the same way every other channel already works. Like every network, it also depends on Spotify approving our API access, so we're saying plainly where it stands instead of promising a date we'd have to guess at.

What we're building first: reporting and pause

Once Spotify advertising connects, the first two things it does are reporting and pause — not campaign building. Reporting means your Spotify numbers land in the same Results Map as every other channel, next to Meta, Google and the rest, instead of living in a separate dashboard. Pause means that if a Spotify campaign is already running spend, Ads and Pixels can stop it without you opening Ad Studio. Building new Spotify ad campaigns from inside Ads and Pixels comes after that, once the paused-draft flow above is verified against a live account. Landing reporting and pause first gets Spotify advertising into the same Results Map your other channels already share, well before campaign building is ready — a smaller, safer first step than shipping campaign creation on a platform whose API doesn't pause on its own.

Run Spotify advertising manually until then

Spotify advertising doesn't have to wait on any of that to start getting measured. Set it up as a manual channel today, the same way any network without a live API works here: a tracked link or a dedicated promo code per campaign, a tracked phone number if the ad drives calls, and spend you enter yourself or upload from an invoice. The Audience Vault attributes leads, calls and sales back to that tracked link or code exactly the way it does for a fully connected channel, so a Spotify campaign shows up in the same results view as everything else you run — just built by hand instead of by API. When reporting and pause ship, that history carries forward; nothing gets rebuilt from zero.

Audio and podcast creative that works on Spotify

Spotify ad campaigns run inside two different listening moments, and they call for different creative. Spotify audio ads play between songs in a listener's own queue, so they compete with music the listener chose — a short, clear spot that leads with the offer in the first few seconds tends to hold attention better than one that opens with a slow setup. Spotify podcast ads sit inside a show a listener is already paying attention to, closer in feel to an old-fashioned radio spot than a skippable pre-roll. Either way, a spoken call to action that a listener can act on later — a short URL, a memorable promo code, a brand name said clearly — matters more here than on a channel with a clickable button in view, since many listeners hear an audio ad away from any screen. Ad Studio is Spotify's own self-serve builder for exactly this kind of spot, and it's the tool a campaign runs through today, on Spotify's side, until reporting and pause connect it to Ads and Pixels.

Who's asking about Spotify advertising

Spotify advertising tends to fit two kinds of advertiser: brands whose audience skews toward audio and podcast listening rather than social feeds, and agencies already running YouTube and connected TV for a client who also wants an audio line item in the same budget conversation. Spotify advertising cost is usually the first question either group asks, and we don't have verified figures of our own to publish yet — we'd rather leave that blank than guess at a number and print it as fact. What we can say is that the manual-channel path above measures a Spotify campaign's real return today, cost included, the moment you log the spend.

Frequently asked questions

Real answers before you make a decision.

Is Spotify advertising available in Ads and Pixels today?

No. It's scoped, and code for it exists, but it isn't connected. The manual-channel option above tracks Spotify spend and results today without waiting on that.

Why does Spotify advertising wait on reporting and pause before campaign building?

Spotify's API creates a new campaign already active, with no paused-draft state like every other channel here gives us. We hold every new campaign paused for review by design, so campaign building on Spotify waits until we've built and verified that same safety step against a live account.

Can I run Spotify ads manually right now?

Yes. A tracked link, a promo code, or a tracked phone number per campaign, plus spend you log yourself, feeds the same Audience Vault every connected channel uses.

Will my manually tracked Spotify data carry over once it connects?

Yes. The tracked link, code and logged spend live in the same Audience Vault record either way; going live adds automated reporting and pause on top of history that already exists.

What is Spotify Ad Studio?

Spotify's own self-serve tool for building and running Spotify ad campaigns. It's where a campaign gets built today, on Spotify's side, until reporting and pause connect that account to Ads and Pixels.

Do you support Spotify podcast ads specifically, or only music ads?

Both are part of the same Spotify advertising surface and the same planned integration — podcast and music ads are both in scope for the planned integration.

What can I run today instead of Spotify advertising?

Meta, Google Ads, Microsoft Advertising, TikTok and Snapchat are all live now, and YouTube covers video and connected-TV reach if audio isn't the only format you need.

Is there a workaround to get Spotify advertising live faster?

No. The active-by-default campaign behavior is Spotify's own API design, and we won't skip the paused-review step just to ship sooner. Track spend manually now, and this page updates the moment reporting and pause actually work.
